Cookie Policy
Version 0.9-draft (effective ) · Last updated Draft
Draft — pending legal review. This document is placeholder copy authored by the ForestVPN team and has not been reviewed or approved by counsel. It is provided so the structure and routes are in place; it is not binding legal text and must not be relied upon. Counsel will replace this body before launch.
This policy explains how ForestVPN uses cookies and similar technologies on our website. It complements our Privacy Policy. In keeping with our no-logs stance, we keep cookie use to the minimum needed to make the site work and to understand, in aggregate, how it is used.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. Similar technologies — such as local storage and pixels — work the same way. They let a site remember information between page loads, such as whether you are signed in or which preferences you have set.
2. Categories of cookies we use
| Category | Purpose | Can you turn it off? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Sign-in, security, load balancing, and remembering your cookie choices. The site cannot function without these. | No — they are required for the site to work. |
| Preferences | Remember choices such as language and theme so the site behaves the way you expect. | Yes. |
| Analytics | Help us understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it. We do not use analytics to profile individuals. | Yes. |
We do not use cookies for advertising or to build cross-site behavioral profiles.
3. Third parties
A small number of trusted providers may set cookies to deliver parts of the Service — for example our payment processors (Stripe, CloudPayments), our single-sign-on and identity providers, and our edge/network provider (Cloudflare). These are governed by the providers' own policies and are limited to operating the Service. We do not embed third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
4. How to control cookies
You can control cookies in several ways:
- In the site. Where a cookie preference control is available, you can accept or decline non-essential categories there. (The consent banner that surfaces these choices is being added separately.)
- In your browser. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking strictly-necessary cookies may stop parts of the site from working.
5. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the version and effective date shown at the top of this page.
